The two routers that I used were: 2WIRE 2701HGV-E and LINKSYS WRT54G2

To be really clear, I didn’t exactly bridge two routers, I disabled the dhcp function of the LINKSYS to make it perform like a switch. But the end result is still pretty cool, now that I have a DD-WRT coexisting on the same network as my other computers.

Here’s the problem:
1. I had an existing ADSL router in Room A with cables leading to Room B.
2. Room B has at least 3 networkable devices.

The simple solutions would be to:
1. Install a switch in Room B, to share the internet from Room A.
2. Install a router, and disable DHCP (At least that’s what I thought)
2a. Using 2. plug the cable from Room A into a LAN port in the router, instead of the WAN port in the router (I have no verified that this works but I think it does)

Needless to say, I actually went one whole round before I thought of it.

I installed DD-WRT on my spanking new WRT54G2 V1, and found that this configuration works rather fine:
Existing ADSL Router
IP: 192.168.1.254
Issues: 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.253 addresses

Basic Setup TAB
Wan Connection Type – Disabled
Local IP Address – 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask – 255.255.255.0
Gateway – 192.168.1.254

Network Address Server Settings (DHCP)
DHCP Type – DHCP Forwarder
DHCP Server – 192.168.1.1

AND THEN, I plugged the LAN cable from Room A to Room B, and stuffed it into one of the LAN ports in the router located in Room B.

And it works. Which made me think, would it have worked if I had just configured used the stock linksys router, disabled dhcp, and then just plugged the cable into it like a regular switch? I highly think so. So if you can, try it, it might save you a whole shitload of time.

Sad to say, I have no figured out how to make my WRT54G2 as an AP with settings from my ADSL router yet. But it’s not a hurry, I prefer cables. Till the next time~

Other than the fact that I’m really irritating, or so they say, it would seem that my friends know more about me than myself. Which is really surprising, therefore I shall I quote something I usually say:

You think your friends are the suck? Your friends are a reflection of yourself.

I’m not usually any good with people out performing me in any way that I deem to be important, so I went on to find out more about myself. As it seems, “personality test” brings out pretty much what I wanted. So after a whole series of tests, I find that I am an ENTP. Or at least what the test usually says (I’ve taken these like at least 6 times since I was 21, not that I ever paid any attention to it), the one I tried at facebook tells me I’m an INTP.

Extraversion – Introversion defines the source and direction of energy expression for a person. The extravert has a source and direction of energy expression mainly in the external world while the introvert has a source of energy mainly in the internal world.

Personally, I would think the general description of ENTP fits me more than the INTP. but it does bother me that my closer friends feel that I’m either an Introvert, or 50/50. After fussing about it for a while, I find that it is relatively true. Let’s see some examples:

I like to be at the centre of attention, and I like to be cooped up at home

I meet lots of new people at networking sessions for fun, but sometimes, I just feel like sitting there to be approached.

I avoid crowded places, holidays and events like the plague, a rainy evening will guarantee a cosy evening on my bed.

On rare occasions, I will randomly make friends with the nearest moving object.

Now that I have taken so many variations of Carl Jung & Briggs-Meyers, I believe it’s not accurate for me to take another one since I know which question is obviously an I or an E now : \ Generally I would say that this is quite interesting, considering that I think I know myself pretty well.

You think you know yourself? Try it. Another aspect is, it is able to recommend a type of job compatible to your personality, or a partner who can complement you, or the school you might want to trained in the future.

From what I read, it is common in japanese culture to base personalities, on blood types. The wiki doesn’t exactly give a comprehensive rundown on how it works, and the origin is little flaky, but generally, a specific blood group will have certain traits. Let me rip it off another site:

Type A: calm, composed, serious, reliable, perfectionist, arrogant, suppress their emotions
Type B: curious, bright, cheerful, enthusiastic, superficial, unreliable, selfish
Type 0: carefree, generous, independant, flexible, clumsy, flighty
Type AB: sensitive, considerate, careful, efficient, strict, moody

I find this method totally unreliable, and lack of scientific basis. But I believe that most japanese merely use blood types just for fun. So I’m type B+-, last I remembered.

Next up, horoscopes. I abhor going to soothsayers and fortune tellers and the whole bulk of them, because mainly, a part of me tells me I shouldn’t scold them in the face when they say something I don’t like at them, no matter how true it is, because they are doing their job. Plus, most of them are quacks anyway. That aside, I do believe that, on a certain level, it is actually quite scientific to me. Let me try to rationalise it properly, as I seem to have a problem convincing people.

According to what I know of astrology, everyone is born under a different star, and according to that, there you can generate a star chart based on a your birthday, time of birth. So what this chart does, is what I call, a visual representation of your entire lives. I think it is, somewhat similar to the fengshui/fortunetelling book.

If you’re not in any one of these teams, and want to translate in the above languages, well you should just join them and not waste any of your time trying to do it yourself. From what I know, they’ve already gotten pretty far (not as far as the english one though) and most of them are headed by programmers who can code the .bin language replacer thing like me : DDDDDD *shameless pug*

If you’re a new team, trying to translate to a language NOT LISTED above, do post something at soc, I’ll help you in any way I can.

If you want to volunteer for translation in the english team, look for croda/blackdragon on Soc. Btw, it doesn’t mean if you translate 200 words you’ll get the patch before everyone else. Cos the rest of the folks have translated over 1-500 sentences each.

Instead of diving straight into the component / module codes, here’s a rundown on what you need to know for coding it.

Note: If you do not know php and mysql at all, I would suggest you just employ someone to code it for you before you break anything in Joomla. It is not exactly that easy to wade through code someone else wrote if you don’t have prior experience.

All database calls can be used like this, in any page that you have coded, be it a component or module or plugin.

global $database;
$database->setQuery( "SELECT * FROM #__users" );
$results = $databage->loadObjectList();
foreach ( $results as $result ) {
echo $result->username;
}

First off, the database object has encapsulated all the database api stuff you’ll need, including retrieving the autonumber.

#__ will translate to jos_ when the query executes itself via loadObjectList();

$result->columnname will retrieve the value of the given columnname

Some other built in stuff which you might want to look at:

$category = mosGetParam( $_REQUEST, 'category', "0" );

To make it Joomla code look consistent, just follow their convention : D

First parameter is the type, usually $_GET / $_POST / $_REQUEST / blahblah

2nd param is of course, the name of the paramter

Somehow the third param doesn’t always work for me. I didn’t read the constructor code for mosGetParam, but it _should_ be the default value if category returns a null value

Sometimes, there’s a type cast before mosGetParam, but I suppose that’s not really useful since php does auto typing.

I’ll update this post as I think of more stuff to write. I have to figure out the order of which tutorial to write too you know : DDDDDD

One of my more adorable students posed me this question. Being the kind of person I am, of course I gave the answer, “Because the sun doesn’t see me much”. To give her the benefit of the doubt, perhaps she was expecting something like “I use whitening products”, or “I’m anemic”, or “I was born this way”. Pretty weird question I’ld say.

The next question was slightly more interesting. “How come you can study and teach at the same time?” I was very tempted to say the truth, which is “That’s because I oversleep for most lessons, and I don’t do any homework”. Now, being a teacher, I am obligated to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, or something like that. But the way I see it, no one’s really paying much attention in class, and it would pretty much have an adverse effect on the attention span if I were to tell the truth.

I pretty much replied “Oh, my lessons are mostly in the morning, and your lessons are in the evenings”, which came with my trademark smile. Point being, I adverted the question by giving a somewhat correct kind of answer.

I’m pretty sure that there’s a term in lawyerspeak for this kind of communication. I would say, most of the time this works. Probably because people who ask don’t really want to know the truth behind the statement, but rather, to fulfill the need to know.
As incredible as it sounds, it has been proven that it works:

My dog ate my homework.

My lost it!

More to come

Msn 8 Beta

Sometimes I don’t even know I’m offline until someone smses me!

It’s TOO SLOW

Sometimes I can’t even login to hotmail by clicking the mail icon!

What is the use of msn spaces if it doesn’t show on my msn messanger!

How are you going to be taking over the world with your Microsoft LIVE if your beta can’t compare to Google’s!

Online gaming communities would live and die by these rules, which is rather important considering most money in games now are MMOs.

This would also apply to a working environment. Considering that everything is mostly made up of humans, it could theoratically apply to communities of all sorts.

Something to hate
