This game, plays like an retro RPG game, with somewhat 3D elements. If you like old school RPGs you have to get this.

Playasia: Hikari no 4 senshi link

In this title, there are no Magic Points, only Ability Points which will recover at one point per end of round. There are 20? 22 classes available, each with their own skillset/ability.

Location names

ホルンの町 Horun town
北の洞窟 North cave
魔女の館 Witch’s museum
月光の塔 Moonlight tower
グーラの地下洞窟 Underground cave to Gura
グーラ Gura
流砂の城 Sand Castle
リベルテ Liberte
海賊のアジト Pirate’s hideout
？？？？ ???? Between Liberte and The art place village
動物の小道 Small path of animals
狩場の洞窟 Hunter’s cave
妖精の道 Path of the fairy
ウルペスの街 Urepesu city
世界樹頂上への道 Path to the world tree
エルバ Elba
世界樹の根 Root of the world tree
世界樹頂上への道 Path to the top of the world tree
氷の洞窟 Ice caves
インビディア Inbidia
インビディア地下 Underground Inbidia
天空への塔 Tower of the sky
ロランのココロ Roland’s heart
スペルビア Supervia
星の奈落 Abyss of Stars

When you reach Supervia, there’s a few things you can do:

Fastest battle points gain, with minimal exp.
- Boss fights are worth 300 bp.

- Just fight against any shopkeeper while in human form. 1 battle is worth 5bp, and you can set it to auto (press x). You can have about 4-5 battles in 60 seconds.

Calculation: 4 battles x 5 bp x 60 Mins = 1200 bp

If you earn wifi Battle Points, the maximum you can get is 1440 BP per hour, with 4 players.

Calculation: (Seconds in battle) x 60 Mins * Number of players / 10

Alternative method, you can equip use two travellers, set battle to auto, select the 2point run ability, and just walk around blindly, or use the horn to increase enemy encounters. This is actually _really_ useful when you find the 4 towers.

Diamond/Crescent Gem drops after space time has been distorted
- Change to animal form, and talk to the Goat outside Roland’s room, he’ll tell you where Roland is.
- Find Roland in the basement of Tower of Sky (Left of Supervia), near the part where you find the HP regain pot of water.
- Go back to the fountain, and into Roland’s heart.
- Enter 3 doors and kill 3 enemies
- Go back to town and save
>>
- Level up your merchant class to lv2
- Have 3 merchants + 1 no class OR 4 merchants and equip the ‘no loss in gems after dying’ item
- Enter the center room in Roland’s heart.
- Use merchant’s ability to search for gems and rare gems (First 2 skills)
- Just die, and you will appear at the town’s save point
- Rinse and repeat
>>
You can _only_ get crescent gems (2,000G) or diamonds (5,000G) from mining this boss.

If you get 3 gems, you’ll get at 6,000G to 15,000G (3 x 2,000G to 3 x 5,000G)
If you get 6 gems, you’ll get at 12,000G to 30,000G (6 x 2,000G to 6 x 5,000G)
If you get all 8, you’ll get at 16,000G to 40,000G (8 x 2,000G to 8 x 5,000G)

Selling for a profit in Urepesu (I have tried it, it is quite hard to get right, or maybe I did it wrongly)
bind 2 x 1,500 books, sell at 5,000 to earn 2,000
bind 2 x 1,000 books, sell at 5,000 to earn 3,000 (promote)
single 1 x 1,500 book, sell at 5,000 to earn 3,500 (promote)

Leveling up your armour/weapons in Urepesu
You can level up your items in a blacksmith shop on the right, over the bridge. He will use gems to upgrade the stats of your weapons/shields/armour. If you level up once, a +1 will appear beside your item name. Initially, you can only get up to +9. After you get to the 80th (?) floor of each tower, you will battle different variations of Bahamut, it will definitely drop the an item, which you can bring to the smithy. It will increase your max upgrade by 10 levels per item you bring to him.

Miscellaneous tips and trips
- The monsters/bosses level up with you.
- Changing names of magic books, this is available west of this town.
- You can upgrade the short sword in the beginning of the game +2 atk +2 magic atk per upgrade, very cool. (Upgrade in Urepesu)
- You can steal Ribbons from the bear in the path of animals. (Use thief class) It’s the only thing worth stealing in my opinion.
- The merchant crown’s final ability negates enemy defence and does damage equivalent to (your current gold)/100. It will cost you a flat fee of 1,000 Gold to use it every time. Then again, by the time you get 1,000,000 gold you’re probably near the end of the game.
- After you get the golden key from Roland, you can access the 4 towers.

Credits: Some information have been gotten from gamefaqs’ forums, some from chinese strategy websites, and some from my own discovery.

Also coming up (next spring!?), is the release of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Till then, there’ll be no Monster Hunter/Hacking/Patching related updates from this site, unless I somehow happen to be really really free.

Being an (ex)geek, I was stuck at the science section of kinokuniya for a few minutes. Ok, fine, it was more like half an hour, and I was chosing between a “how to apply statistics to everyday life” kind of book, to this “How Big is Your Brain?“.

Anyway I chose the big brain book, so this book is written by Ian Livingstone, the co-author from the Ian Livingstone / Steve Jackson Fighting Fantasy series. If at this point, you are still not interested, it’s either you are:

A fake gamer

Not a gamer

Having no idea what’s going on. Why are you reading this anyway? It won’t make any sense to you.

The cool thing about this book, is that it’s a somewhat IQ Quiz book, in a gamebook format. It’s almost like re-living your childhood! Hohohohoho! I’m so happy I found this gem.

Anyway, this is another vps server. And I’ll be using this site temporarily until I get it up again. My original box I mean. Most probably I’ll be doing an overhaul on everything, while shifting the server to sweden.

Also, I’ve decided to use this theme as I’ve decided that I’m really a simple guy *gasp choke wheeze*

For the rest of the Monster Hunter folks who’s looking for the english patch, laboko saves and every other information, please head over to skiesofcrimson.com and look for help there instead. It’ll take like a few days before I can drag myself to the datacentre.

I will be creating an mhp2g dev wiki, in the time to come, in it will be details on the process of dismantling mhp2g. Of course I will not be hosting any form of patches, or any condemning information which may lead to my arrest : D~

I will, however, need help from dbf experts who might give me some insight on how to extract more information on mhp2g’s data.bin. If you have a method to read passworded dbf files, do leave a comment and we can see how we’ll proceed from there.

Another thing I would need help on, can someone run ethereal when trying to connect online? I need to look for the ip or domain the psp tries to connect to when downloading quests.

A gist of my planned table of contents:

Using the dec.exe / enc.exe kindly donated by CG to SoC

Extraction of japanese text from bin files using CodeStation’s opensourced tool

A table comprising on where to go about translating certain parts of the in-game text

Methods used to extract information on the extracted bin files

Of course, this is all somewhat technical and educational in nature, I do not expect everyone to want to read it, but I feel that this is important information for the further development on MH3 on the wii when it comes out.

And finally, I do not have possession of SoC’s english patch, so please kindly stop bothering me with requests for downloading the patch. If you want a playable english patch, look for the WinZer, he’s the nice thai guy who made his own patch in english, which got leaked out. English is not his main language so you’ll have to forgive him for his mistakes, if any, if you manage to get your hands on his patch. As of this time, his latest version should be 1.2 R2, if I’m not wrong.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PmfNbo5Jro

So anyway, I have been called a thief, a selfish coder and some other nasty names all in this whole translation adventure. I estimate probably like 95% the community doesn’t care, and the other 5% hates my guts for the things that I didn’t do.

I suppose most people will be angry at this, especially since I can smell my effort there but I’m not rightfully credited, but as they say, easy come easy go, what can you expect from about a week’s of work? : D~

Anyway, there will not be an english patch or a link to the english patch here, and since I’m not in the soc team anymore, so don’t ask me for it. I don’t think there will be any more monster hunter related posts until I get a copy of MH3 on the wii.

If you’re not in any one of these teams, and want to translate in the above languages, well you should just join them and not waste any of your time trying to do it yourself. From what I know, they’ve already gotten pretty far (not as far as the english one though) and most of them are headed by programmers who can code the .bin language replacer thing like me : DDDDDD *shameless pug*

If you’re a new team, trying to translate to a language NOT LISTED above, do post something at soc, I’ll help you in any way I can.

If you want to volunteer for translation in the english team, look for croda/blackdragon on Soc. Btw, it doesn’t mean if you translate 200 words you’ll get the patch before everyone else. Cos the rest of the folks have translated over 1-500 sentences each.

I found this post on SoC, so I thought I would share it with the folks who’re having trouble with timemachine on the slim. But I must say, the person who came up with this plugin is really a genius. I personally have not tried this yet, but from what I gather, after you manage to convert the save file, you should turn the plugin off.

All credits under this line go to acacia@SoC.

The original post came from here: http://skiesofcrimson.com/forum/topic/14833
I wanted to convert my save game myself and I only have a slim PSP which I wasn’t able run Laboko on so I figured out an alternate way.

What you need:

A PSP with custom firmware (works on slim and phat)

Monster Hunter Freedom 2

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G

PC and USB cable to connect your PSP

Savegame-Deemer http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-development-forum-11/t-release-savegame-deeme…

A Monster Hunter Portable 2nd game save (get one from the conversion thread) http://skiesofcrimson.com/forum/topic/12747

Your Monster Hunter Freedom 2 game save

Instructions:

Extract a Monster Hunter Portable 2nd game save to the “/PSP/SAVEDATA” folder on your PSP

Install and enable Savegame-Deemer

Extract the “seplugins” folder from sgdeemer_110.rar to the root of your memory stick

Go to the “/seplugins” folder on your PSP and add the contents of “game.txt.new” to “game.txt” and then remove “game.txt.new”

Turn off your PSP and turn it back on while holding the R button

When the recovery menu shows up go to “Plugins ->”

Select “deemerh.prx [GAME] (Disabled)” and hit X so that it changes to “deemerh.prx [GAME] (Enabled)”

Select “Back” and then “Exit” to get out of the recovery menu

Run Monster Hunter Freedom 2

Load your game save

Save your game and exit

Run Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G

Select New Game

Select the second option

Go through the steps until you load the Monster Hunter Portable 2nd characters

Exit the game and connect your PSP through USB to your PC

Navigate to the “/PSP/SAVEPLAIN/ULUS1026600″ folder on your PSP

When the recovery menu shows up go to “Plugins ->”

Select “deemerh.prx [GAME] (Enabled)” and hit X so that it changes to “deemerh.prx [GAME] (Disabled)”

Select “Back” and then “Exit” to get out of the recovery menu

Hopefully these instructions are clear enough but if you have any questions I’ll check back here regularly.

Edit: Made the steps more detailed to fix some confusion.

Hi everyone, I’m currently working with several team(s)/people? Not too sure who belongs to which team though, I’m really not interested in politics. I’m just trying to help anyone.

But rest assured that alot of people are helping out at soc. There really is alot of useful information that everyone can provide.

I would say to everyone who’s waiting, there seems to be a glimmer of hope, so please wait. And to those who emailed me, or PM-ed me, or left a comment that would like a reply, I’m really busy, and I’ve already lost count of how many forums I’ve posted to, but I’ll try to reply everything. I am really a friendly person, and not stuck up like what my friends told you, and especially if you’re a cute chick. Seriously. Cute chicks > MHP2G

I mean like, I could have killed 10 narugas instead of 1, but I didn’t have enough time, really, it wasn’t because the sob is moving so fast, or the bloody backflip tail, or the super swipes, I swear : DDDD

Let me present to you:

From http://skiesofcrimson.com/forum/topic/13181

This is probably like the 2194815684726502598th topic regarding the english patch, but I don’t see any information regarding which individual/team is making the patch.

If there’s anyone does know who’s doing it, can you please pm me with the info? I would love to help in any way I can.

If, in the unfortunate event that no one is doing it, I still wouldn’t mind learning how to patch it. But I still need someone to teach me so I can get something started. I have some programming background and even though I can read chinese, I would still prefer most of it in english. More importanly, who’s to say that the MHF2G won’t have a blood nerf?

From what little I know of (Do tell me if I’m wrong)

Everything is encrypted, but some guys from CG/TGBUS have the unencrypted language files

I suppose the language files contains reference to the jpn0.pgf table, and you probably need to point it to an english character. (Maybe there’s a hash for this?)

Then you’ll still have to know how to encrypt it back, and put it in an iso and test it.

Then you’ll have to diff the iso and the original file to a pff for easy distribution.

Anyone who can help?

Update at: 200804011244

Well anyway, since there’s no one who can help I think I’ll just try to teach it to myself. I’ll just post whatever I have here so it’ll help anyone who’s interested.

There’s an NDS rom translation guide on the tgbus forum and I’ve gone through
some of the steps. Of course I’m still just feeling my way through the
darkness, trying to piece stuff together with help and common sense.

Basically the article walks through:

Extracting the language files, figuring out which files contain the content

Looking up the Shift-JIS table for the translation

Using a hex editor to find out location of the word to translate

Creating a file which lists down the starting address, number of bytes to translate, and the words to be replace

Gluing everything back to a .nds file

Step 1: We know for sure that the language files are encrypted, so we’re stuck here? Maybe, maybe not. The fact that one person can decrypt it in 3 days just proves that it can be decrypted by someone else. We could probably wait till christmas for this person to appear, and let him do all the work from scratch, but I’m not the kind of person who likes to sit and wait around, and I would love to help this person so he doesn’t need to do everything from scratch.

Step 4: Particularly interesting, as I took a look at the translation files that Zeal created for mph2. They’re in the same format. Another thing I realised, is that translation via this method requires a character for character conversion.

005B2E3F,8,????
005B2E3F,8,????

I suppose this is a better explanation why the chinese translation was out so damned fast. I’ll have to take a closer look at Zeal’s translation files and try to play around with it to figure out if he did a character for character conversion.

I’ll post more progess if any when I get to figure out more things, or when someone updates me on my errors or gives me more hints.

Update at: 200804031518

Erm I just realised something very silly, I didn’t realise it before but maybe someone else did. I was told by a random email that the
encryption used was AES. I was walking outside back from the toilet and it suddenly hit me.

How can it be using any form of heavy duty encrpytion for the main text? The default speed for the psp’s processor
is 222mhz, the main text must be at most using a “relatively simple” kind of symmetric encryption. Of course I could be horribly wrong and I can think of at
least 3 different ways I could be wrong, but then again, can anyone verify this? I would say it’s worth a look.

Update at: 200804071014

Nothing mentions about extraction of data.bin, which is the next thing I’ve decided to work on. Unfortunately, I’ll need another epi file or something like that before I can extract data.bin using xpert2, or something to that degree. I have requested for this file and we’re waiting for a reply from the chinese team. I would urge anyone who knows of this method to share, so I will be able to further my search.

Update at: 200804141514

Good news everyone~ *rub hands* probably we’ll be able to get our hands on the translation tool very soon!

Here’s some useful translation links for all the teams who are already gearing up to do translation!
